Winter Session of Himachal Assembly likely to be postponed

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | PNS | Shimla

The winter session of the Himachal Assembly scheduled to be held from December 7 in Dharamsala town may be postponed.

The session may be combined with the budget session next year.

After the state cabinet, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Monday said that the assembly session may be postponed due to the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

The state Cabinet led by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur authorised Bhardwaj to call an all-party meeting early to decide on holding the winter session or not.

Bhardwaj, while talking to the mediapersons said, “I will call an all-party meeting to decide on whether to hold the winter session of the Himachal Assembly or not. Its duration can be shortened and even it can be shifted to Shimla rather than holding in Dharamsala.”

“It may also be postponed since no major legislative business has been pending,” the Minister said.

The Governor Bandaru Dattatreya has convened the winter session from December 7 to 11.Notably, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has two premises - Shimla and Tapovan near Dharamshala. The winter session of the Assembly is held at Tapovan in Kangra district.

Earlier, a 12-day monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly was held in September in Shimla under strict COVID-19 measures.
