nThe Chhattisgarh State Commission for Women has directed the district administration to look into alleged microfinance frauds affecting rural women in Surguja.
Commission’s Chairperson Kiranmayee Nayak during a public hearing for Surguja and Balrampur districts on Monday gave the directive after listening to the grievances of over 50 women from different villages, a press release said.
The women complained that a few agents from different banks got loans sanctioned in their names. Later, a middleman gave the women Rs 3,000-4,000 and withdrew the loan amount from their accounts while promising to pay the loans.
Now bank officials are pressurizing the women to pay the loans, the press release said.
Taking note of the issue, Nayak ruled that the women need not pay the loans. She further said the Collector and Superintendent of Police will get the case investigated and register criminal cases against the offenders, the press release added.
The Commission heard 14 cases and sought registration of FIR in three cases.
The Chairperson, in another case, directed the Jashpur Collector to suspend an agriculture officer of the district after conducting a hearing under the Chhattisgarh Civil Service Rule 1965.
