Years of struggle have brought solace to multitudes: CM

Thursday, 06 August 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

On the occasion of the Bhoomi Pujan for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat recalled aspects of his life during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Expressing joy on the historic occasion, Rawat recalled that during the movement in 1989, he used to stay in Meerut and had disguised himself while participating in the movement.

Watching the live telecast of the ceremony from Ayodhya, the CM said that the occasion had come after many years of struggle. There are many families in Ayodhya and across the nation which have been reciting Akhand Ramayan and Ramdhun for a long time awaiting this moment. Thousands of people made sacrifices to enable construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. Today, the outcome of the struggle of those thousands of people is taking a concrete shape.

He recalled, “In 1989 when the movement for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya had picked up pace, people used to hold Jagran for construction of the shrine. During that movement Rs 1.25 donation used to be collected from individuals for providing one brick in their name for construction of the temple. People brought stones from the remote Liwadi-Khitadi village of Uttarkashi after covering a distance of 18 kilometres on foot. The Bhoomi Pujan for construction of the Ram temple will provide solace to the souls of such persons too.”

Rawat also said that senior journalist and Pracharak, Moropant Pingle, Ashok Singhal, Mahant Avaidyanath and the Kothari brothers had played important roles in this movement.

Sharing his experiences he reminisced, “During the Ram temple movement in 1989, I used to stay in Meerut and had participated in the movement in disguise. Thousands of people took part in the movement along with me.” Rawat said that he had talked to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He said that he would soon visit Ayodhya and have a Darshan of lord Ram. He will also go to see the temple after it is constructed, added Rawat.Later during the evening, the CM lit Diyas along with his family members at his official residence to celebrate the occasion.
