Yogi launches campaign against communicable diseases

Thursday, 02 July 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

Lauding Health department workers for their role in the fight against coronavirus, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a mega campaign against communicable diseases spanning the next one month across the state on Wednesday.

The function held at the CM’s official residence at 5, Kalidas Marg in Lucknow was attended by several ministers and officials. Some senior ministers were also present in different districts to launch the campaign and participated through video conferencing.

A mega surveillance of coronavirus is presently underway in Meerut division comprising, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Noida where Health department teams would screen every household  and survey members suffering from any illnesses.

Speaking at the function, Yogi said that at a time when coronavirus cases were rising in the state,  communicable diseases were also likely to spread tentacles with the onset of monsoon.

“We have to be aware of communicable diseases along with coronavirus by keeping our areas clean and following precautions,” he said.

Lauding the Health department for controlling communicable diseases in 2019, Yogi said that around 600 people died of communicable diseases like dengue, malaria and encephalitis in 2017 but the figure plummeted to just 126 deaths  in 2019, due to the good work done by Health and other departments.

He also appreciated the work done by officers and medical staff in bringing down encephalitis deaths in eastern UP districts.

Under the campaign against communicable diseases, volunteers would carry out door-to- door survey of people and the ailing ones would be provided medicines and children would be vaccinated.

Talking about upcoming coronavirus surveillance across the state, the CM said prevention of COVID-19 could only be through screening. “We have to win the fight against coronavirus and will do whatever is required to achieve the target,” he said.

Yogi said that door-to-door coronavirus surveillance would start from Meerut division on Thursday and it would commence in remaining divisions from July 5.

Of late, the highest spike in coronavirus cases has been reported from Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) and Meerut districts of Meerut division. Almost 20-22 per cent of the total coronavirus cases are reported from these districts daily.

Bharatiya Janata Party state chief Swatantra Dev Singh, who was also present at the function, said that the campaign against communicable diseases would prevent the spread of dengue, malaria, encephalitis, chikungunya and other similar diseases.
