As the migrant workers issue has taken a political turn with Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party playing a tug of war, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a series of tweets asked Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra if the states ruled by her party had so many buses, why the migrant workers and their families from these states were sent in trucks.
Yogi’s tweets were in response to an emotional tweet from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in which she had asked the UP government to allow entry of 1,000 buses which Congress had arranged to ferry migrant workers to their native districts.
In the first tweet, the chief minister said if the Congress had 1,000 buses at its disposal, then why Punjab and Maharashtra governments were sending migrant workers in trucks.
“The nation is saddened by the accident in Auraiya (involving) a truck coming from Punjab and another from Rajasthan. Will Priyanka Gandhi take responsibility of that accident and tender an apology to the nation?” Yogi asked in his second tweet.
In the next tweet, Yogi said if Congress has arranged for 1,000 buses, why it has so far not furnished the details of the buses to the Uttar Pradesh government.
“Majority of the Shramik Special trains are coming to UP. If Priyanka is so concerned about migrant labourers from UP, why she is not asking her state governments to send these labourers by trains,” Yogi asked in his fourth and last tweet.
In the evening however, Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi said that the government had accepted the Congress proposal and asked it to furnish details of 1,000 buses.
Twenty-six migrant workers were killed after a trailer truck carrying sacks of lime along with people rammed into a stationary truck with many migrant workers sitting in it, near a roadside eatery on the national highway in Auraiya on Saturday.
