Friday, 22 May 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

To fight malnutrition during COVID 19 pandemic, the youngsters of the State have become a part of the nutritious meal campiagn. The campiagn aims to provide nutritious meal to 5000 children in Sheopur district. The children are identified by Gandhi Ashram. The campiagn is also supported by the organisations BMZ and WHH affiliated with the German Government.

The objective of this campaign is to ensure that no child stays a victim of malnutrition. The campaign will be run under the Poshan Samriddh Gaon Yojana (Nutri-Smart Villages), and its objective is that each village and family should reach the appropriate nutrition index. Under the campaign, 5000 malnutritional children have been identified and will be regularly monitored and provided child-friendly Nutri-mix meals.

This nutri-mix complete nutritional meal will be prepared using the ingredients present at the local level in each village, so that the women in each and every village can source the material locally and continue preparing nutritious meals to keep their children healthy. To ensure that villages are not dependent on resources unavailable locally, research was done at the local level to ensure that the Nutri-mix utilises local resources such as wheat, which is abundant in the region.

Other grains were also selected for fat content and other nutritional elemets. Chickpea (chana), groundnuts (peanut) as well as sesame are very rich in nutritional content and abundantly available in the local region. The nutrition specialist of  Poshan Samriddh Gaon Yojana (Nutri-Smart Village), Shabnam Afghani trained more than twelve women of Gadhla village in methodology to prepare  complete nutritional package.
