High level meet to review corona situation in J&K

Amid spike in the Covid-19 cases especially across Jammu region, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday rushed a high level central team headed by Director National Centre  for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr SK Singh to Jammu to take stock of the ground situation and suggest measures to contain the spread of the virus and improve health care facilities.

In the last one week, Jammu region has recorded 80 Covid-19 deaths and over 5000 residents have tested positive for coronavirus. The total number of active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir Saturday stood at  21281. Out of these, Jammu has so far recorded  12318 active positive cases while Kashmir valley has  reported 8963  active cases.  The death toll has reached 987 in J&k.

For almost two weeks the health care infrastructure was struggling to cope with the huge rush of patients leading to chaotic situation in the dedicated Covid hospitals and isolated wards across other health centres.

According to the official sources, soon after their arrival here in Jammu a team of doctors headed by Dr Vijay Hadda, Associate Professor, Department of Pulmonary Critical care, AIIMS, New Delhi visited  Government Medical college hospital, Jammu and interacted with the senior faculty along with Principal of the college Dr Nisab Chand Digra. He was accompanied by a senior epidemiologist.

The team members took comprehensive feedback on reasons behind sudden spike in cases of coronavirus, total number of deaths, treatment facilities, challenges and shortage of trained manpower and infrastructure facilities.

The team members also visited few other places where patients were admitted in Jammu.  Another team headed by Dr. S.K Singh, Director NCDC New Delhi along with Dr Tanzin Joint Director NCDC New Delhi visited Udhampur and took feedback from the ground zero. A separate meeting was chaired by the central team along with Financial commissioner, Health Atal Dulloo here in the civil secretariat.
