Strikes the right note

If you enjoyed watching Uri: The Surgical Strike and want more of the same then Avrodh: The Siege Within is right up your alley. The trailer of the web series that goes live on SonyLiv on July 31, 2020 is based on Rahul Singh and Shiv Aroor’s book, India’s Most Fearless and is directed by Raj Acharya. From the trailer, the series promises to be just as intriguing and thrilling. While almost all of India knows what happened during the Uri surgical strikes, Avrodh… goes a step forward — it is a detailed authentic account of a covert mission that was tasked to the Indian Army following the Uri attack and the planning behind it.

The series opens with Shailesh Malviya played by Neeraj Kabi, who plays the role of National Security Advisor. He is known to be a trigger-happy politician, having served R&AW and been a journalist, Malviya understands the world of security and its image from within. His dialogue: “Let us show the world that India is not just the land of Mahatma Gandhi but also Shubhash Chandra Bose,” is worth a million. More so, given the rising international pressure, the Indian Army showed extraordinary courage, heroism, and fearlessness under hostile conditions.

Who are the men of courage on the frontline? Major Videep, played by Amit Sadh, is a special force commander, who is leading the mission. Coming from an army background he always craved to join the force and is furious yet balanced in his reaction. In the series, he uses his knowledge, patience and resourceful planning will be worth watching. When Sadh had shared the trailer, he had tweeted: “I dedicate this to u, Dad. For u & all Indians, I bring to u #Avrodh. We heard about it, read about it, & saw things, but do we know everything? Was it as simple as it seemed? Or did this require strategic planning, precise execution, & daring decision-making? I was truly amazed!” He had also gone on to say that the web series is a different narrative than the movie because the format is different and in Avrodh… they had more hours and hence were able to go into the details and complexities.

Darshan Kumaar plays Major Raunak Gautam. He is from the Bihar Regiment and is a sentimental yet determined soldier. A family man, who is unable to meet his daughter, loses his best friend to the attack. How he comes on board the final mission and takes the revenge of his friend’s murder will definitely be interesting.

The other characters that will keep one interested in the series are Madhurima Tuli who plays Namrata Joshi, a senior reporter with a news channel. She is feisty and has a quest for truth. Does she succeed in knowing it and how does she bring it in public is something that her character will keep one hooked.

And then there is Vikram Gokhale who plays Prime Minister. He makes an unprecedented decision and stands behind it till the very last moment. The other stellar cast includes names like Anant Mahadevan, Arif Zakaria, Pavail Gulati and Abu Hafeez.
