Talktime | ‘Music is my first love’

Himesh Reshmmiya is Known for songs like Jhalak Dikhlaja, Aap Ka Suroor and Tandoori Nights, Reshammiya dons several hats. He speaks with Musba Hashmi about what made him come on board as a judge for Big Golden Voice, his lockdown routine and upcoming projects

What made you come on board as a judge for Big Golden Voice?

The concept of Big FM’s Big Golden Voice presented by IDFC First bank was extremely unique to begin with. The fact it’s a radio show and everything is about the voice you hear for the first time of the contestant basis which they get selected and not for their personality and screen presence. Their voice is the only criteria here.

The medium and concept being so different, and at the same time challenging, is what attracted me to the show.  Also the team was excellent to work with.

What next for the winners?

I will be doing a video with the winners Shalini and Ankit Damami soon. I will also give them a break in my forthcoming songs for sure.

You don various hats — actor, singer, music director, composer. Where do you find yourself most comfortable working in?

Music is my most comfortable area and because of that and my brand, I have been able to do other things as well. Besides the music being a blockbuster hit, my latest film as an actor, Happy Hardy and Heer received a lot of critical acclaim from the best of the critics in the industry along with me getting a lot of acclaim for my performance as an actor. I am extremely happy about the response.

What does music mean to you?

Music means the world to me. It’s my identity and my first love.

A song that you have most memories with?

Lately, Teri Meri Kahani from Happy Hardy and Heer went viral and became the most searched song of 2019. I have fond memories of the song as it was a very different experience of giving a break to someone whom I had heard on a reality show.

An advice for aspiring singers, who are taking the digital route?

My advice to all singers, no matter what route they are taking, is that they should also start composing if they want to be in the game for a longer time.

Any changes that you have seen in the music industry?

The music industry is growing exponentially with each passing day, and great melodies will be back soon. I’ll also be coming up with 700 new songs soon.

What keeps you busy during this lockdown period?

I am working on my music, scripts and future projects besides enjoying quality time with my family during this lockdown. I am also working on my new look and my fitness routine also keeps me busy besides the work.

What next?

In addition to the huge 700 song project which is almost ready, I am also doing three films as an actor, one is Main Jahan Rahoon directed by Rajesh Seth which has lyrics by the veteran Javed Akhtar sahab whom I am teaming up with after the landmark music of Namastey London.

Post this, there is a sequel of The Xpose which is — The Xpose Returns, and one more film which will be announced soon. I will also be doing a web show. I am also doing three films as a composer for Raj Santoshi, Ratna Sinha and Sandeep Singh. I am also doing a song in Salman bhai’s movie Radhe. Also, I will be coming back again with my new reality show on TV as a judge. So I have got a jam packed schedule ahead.
