UP: 40 docs quit in last 2 months

Sunday, 20 September 2020 | Pradeep Saxena | Aligarh

The Health Department is not getting doctors even during the Corona pandemic. During the last two months, 40 doctors left the health department after selection. Not only this, no private doctor is ready despite offering five thousand rupees per day. There is already a huge shortage of doctors in the health department. After the corona virus infection spread, the demand for doctors rises. JN Medical College, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Joint Hospital, 100 Bed Hospital Atrauli, CHC Harduaganj, Jeevan Jyothi Ayurvedic Medical college, Government Homoeopathic Medical College at Chherat were converted into Covid-19 Hospital.

There were not enough doctors here to treat patients. There is a direct need for specialist physicians due to the huge shortage of doctors in hospitals in the city and in CHC and PHC.

In August, there were interviews for 24 posts of doctors from various departments on contract. 18 physicians were selected, and the government gave the green signal to deploy 15 of them but at the time of joining, not a single doctor was ready. Similarly, in August, interviews were held for 22 posts of doctors. There were four anesthesiologists, 6 physicians, and 12 medical officer posts. It also happened there, and selected doctors turned their backs on joining. Because of the Corona pandemic, private doctors were also offered by the government to come and serve in the Covid-19 hospital 15 days a month. Each day five thousand, i.e 15 days 75 thousand rupees will be given as salary in the month, but not a single private doctor was ready to serve.

Dr. BP Singh Kalyani said that the public attitude towards the doctor in government hospitals is not very good and people get intimidated by the minor issue. The doctors of the government department do not have any scheduled working time that is why they avoid going to the village. There is a lack of many residential and other facilities as well. Money is also a reason.

According to Dr. Hamza Malik, RDA President, JNMC, Junior Resident and Senior Resident in CMO Central University gets 90-95 thousand to 1.20 lakh rupees respectively every month. In such a situation, why would the youth go for a contract job of Rs 55 thousand? There is also corruption and many other evils, due to which they do not consider their future as secure.

Dr. Ammar of JNMC said that there are many reasons for this. There is no chance to keep updating the knowledge you have acquired. There is no opportunity to learn new things in hospitals. Salaries are low. The atmosphere is also not good. The future does not seem secure in a contract job. The government doctors are doing more administrative work rather than their scheduled routine work
