Singapore reports 40 new coronavirus cases, mostly foreigners

Singapore reported 40 new coronavirus infections, including 13 imported and four community cases, pushing the nationwide tally to 57,022, the health ministry said on Sunday.

The rest are all migrant workers, it said.

The 13 imported patients have been placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival in Singapore, while the four community cases are all foreign workers, the ministry said.

With the detection of the 40 new cases, Singapore's tally now stands at 57,022, it said, adding that 56,267 patients have recovered so far from the disease.

Currently, 50 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, while 638 others are isolated and cared for at community facilities for mild symptoms.

Meanwhile, the ministry has removed 41 COVID-19 cases from the total count of confirmed infections as those were added to the tally due to administrative errors .

"Most of these cases had been added to the case count over the past few months due to administrative errors. These were wrongly recorded or duplicated entries, or those that were reclassified following laboratory investigations and clinicians' assessment," the ministry said on Saturday.

Corrective action had been taken early on in the management of all these cases, and all necessary public health actions had been taken. None of the cases had been exposed to risk of infection due to their initial classification," it said.

The ministry on Saturday also announced three new clusters of COVID-19 from dormitories which houses foreign workers.
