At the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Renuka Gera, 57, has assumed charge as the Director (Industrial Systems & Products) of the Public Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprise. Significantly, she is the first woman director at BHEL. Prior to this, Gera was heading BHEL’s industry sector business segment as an Executive Director. An Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate from Delhi College of Engineering, Gera started her career with BHEL as an Engineer Trainee in the company’s Transmission Business Group in 1984. She has earlier been sponsored by BHEL for an International Certification Programme in Business Management conducted under the aegis of the Department of Public Enterprises.

The MGD Weekend Home Affordability Determination lottery of the Rajasthan Housing Board is scheduled to be held on December 7. The lottery for the remaining residential schemes is also scheduled for the day. Residential schemes of Abu Road, Udaipur, Banswara, Bhilwara and Jodhpur lottery will be this month, too. Housing Commissioner Pawan Arora said that the MGD are located amid the lush green fields near Jaipur by Mandal Weekend Homes (Duplex Housing), priced at `14 lakh. Online applications had been invited for the scheme. Facilities like chowpatty, open air theatre, children's park and open gym are under works. The Jaipur Priority lottery of the housing schemes in cities will be organised soon.

Anil Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman, SAIL and Chairman, CII PSE Council, chaired the recent PSE Summit 2020, which aimed at discussing, ‘PSEs: Furthering Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ In his address, he emphasised on the significant and irreplaceable role by the Indian Public Sector in strengthening country’s self-reliance and for realising the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said, “Increasing self-reliance is the cornerstone today for better economic performance and that is why Atmanirbhar Bharat has become so close to our thoughts and actions and today’s summit is marked to celebrate its very spirit. ‘Perform or perish’ is the key that has gripped both the industry in general and PSEs in particular.” Several industry doyens participated in the sessions where deliberation on various ingenious ways of contributing towards self-reliance took place.

RITES Ltd., a miniratna (Category - I) schedule ‘A’ public sector enterprise, has won the SKOCH Gold Award (Response to COVID-19) at the 68th SKOCH summit on November 28. It was also conferred the ‘Beacons of Hope-Order of Merit’ award for Bogibeel Bridge Project, India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge, on the Brahmaputra river in Dibrugarh, Assam. The awards acknowledge the company’s efforts in providing state-of-the-art technical and innovative solutions to infrastructure projects and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential services during the COVID-induced lockdown.

Government-owned Power Finance Corporation (PFC), a NBFC, has won the Gold Award for Best Performing PSU for COVID activities at the SKOCH awards. The award was bestowed for consistent performance by PFC across verticals. It was presented virtually on November 28, 2020. It was also bestowed with the ‘Beacons of Hope’ — certificate of merit for its contribution on project for relief activities during COVID. The award is testimony to the corporation’s efforts as it ensured usual business even during the testing times.

Satish Kumar Kashyup, General Manager, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) along with other senior officers visited the workshop on December 1 and 2. He inspected various shops such as loco testing & assembly shops and traction motor shops. He also visited steel foundry shop and shell, bogie and wheel shops in manufacturing group. He was accompanied by the departmental heads, officers, staff and supervisors of respective shops.

During his inspection, he appreciated the efforts of officers, staff & supervisors of CLW in producing 40 electric locomotives per month for the last three consecutive months despite the COVID-19 situation. This is a step towards ‘Make in India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign of Prime Minister.
