83% engineers want to switch jobs

A survey by BridgeLabz has revealed that most of the engineers want to switch jobs amid the present pandemic. The survey conducted with over 1,000 people was based on the theme — Another year of lockdown; How has the Professional Growth of Engineers been affected in the last one-and-half year. It found out that 83% of engineers are looking for a job change and only 21% are enrolled in any kind of structured course for upskilling.

About 58% of the respondents were fresh graduates and looking for job. More than 50% of respondents feel work-from-home post-pandemic has not affected their professional development. About 75% respondents didn’t get promotion or appraisal amid the pandemic.

Narayan Mahadevan, Founder of BridgeLabz said: “Maximum number of engineers want to switch jobs but need upskilling that delivers a development job. The present workforce of engineers is not suitable for present-day tech-based jobs. We are trying to find gaps and understand aspirations of engineers and companies. We want to enable them for jobs in demand.”

Partnership in areas of cooperation

The Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR’s Center for Archaeology, Heritage & Museum Studies and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain, have signed an MoU. This would enable cooperation, communication, exchange and enhancement of interdisciplinary training for students and professionals. The areas of cooperation include but are not limited to student opportunities at the UG and PG levels.

Sharda Uni join hands with MESC

The School of Media, Film and Entertainment (SMFE), Sharda University, in collaboration with the Media and Entertainment Skill Council will establish a Centre of Excellence & Creative Entrepreneurship for the Media and Entertainment Sector at its campus.

The curriculum of the programmes offered by the university under this partnership strictly follows guidelines laid down by New Education Policy 2020 and this collaboaration shall lay foundations to skill based learning, with high focus on creating entrepreneurs and skilled workforce in this discipline.

Model to predict Temp & Climate anomalies

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal scientists have developed a statistical model that can predict summer temperatures and extended climate anomalies in India, using the weather data from the preceding winter.

Research groups from all over the world are involved in developing models for climate prediction in different time (months/years) and spatial (regional/global) scales using known data from past and scientific understanding about the physical and dynamic processes of climate evolution.

The research was led by Dr Pankaj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, IISER, Bhopal. The model development and results of the prediction studies have been published in the international journal of Climatology; it was co-authored by Kumar and research scholar Aditya Kumar Dubey.

Kumar said: “With climate change and global warming being increasingly recognised as a threat to the ecosystem, socio-economy and, perhaps, life itself, it is important to understand and be able to predict seasonal patterns for better preparedness.”

Record campus placement drive

The KL Deemed to be University has announced that the university has secured its highest-ever placement offers of 3,200-plus so far for its students from BTech, MTech, MBA, BBA and BSc courses. Despite the economic slowdown caused by the pandemic, the university worked closely with the HR officials of the corporates to achieve this landmark

With an early placement drive as a strategic move, the university has maintained its record of securing ever-increasing placements consistently. The university, with its distinctive academia, coupled with state-of-the-art infrastructure, has proved to be an enticing destination for recruiters. The highest package through the placement was `25 lakh per annum.

Skills are critical for the digital-first world

The Cisco Networking Academy and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have partnered to address the shortage of a tech-proficient workforce in India and create career opportunities for millions in the digital economy.

The partnership will provide digital skills critical for the digital-first world. The demand for technical talent continues to outpace supply. An example — cybersecurity demand is expected to increase five times in next four years in India.

The partnership aims to enable free access to an industry-relevant global curriculum and content in Networking, Cybersecurity, Programming, the Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Essentials, and Linux. The academy offers courses to help develop foundational Information and Communication Technology skills needed to design, build and manage networks, along with soft skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The courses are open to all and will prepare candidates for entry-level ICT jobs, help them pursue additional training and earn globally recognised certification.
