India reports lowest single-day jump in Covid infections

India has reported the lowest single-day jump in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours since mid-June with 12,584 fresh infections taking the tally to 1,04,79,179, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday

The death toll increased to 1,51,327 with 167 daily new fatalities while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,01,11,294 pushing the national COVID-19 recovery rate to 96.49 percent.

The Covid-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.44 percent with the active caseload remaining below 3 lakh.

There are 2,16,558 active coronavirus infections in the country which comprises 2.07 percent of the total caseload, as per the Ministry.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

“The country is now 14th among the most affected countries by active

cases. India added 12,584 cases, the lowest daily spike since June 17, to take its total caseload to 10,479,179.

And, with 167 new fatalities its Covid-19 death toll reached 151,327, or 1.44 per cent of total confirmed infections,” said Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.
