Maya: BJP leaders vitiating atmosphere through provocative statements

Tuesday, 23 November 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati charged that some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were vitiating the atmosphere by their provocative statements on the issue of repeal of Farm laws and demanded that they be reined in to instill confidence among farmers.

Taking to twitter on Monday morning, Mayawati posted, "Accepting the demand of the farmers who have been agitating for almost a year by PM Narendra Modi to withdraw the three agricultural laws, some other just demands of theirs also need timely solution so that they can return to their respective homes after being satisfied and be able to fully re-engage in their tasks."

The BSP chief further tweeted, "At the same time, in order to instill confidence among the farmers about the special announcement of the Central Government for withdrawal of Agricultural laws, it is necessary to rein in the rhetoric of some BJP leaders, who, despite the PM’s announcement, create suspicion among the people with their provocative statements and are spoiling the environment."

Though Mayawati did not name any BJP leader, she was apparently referring to the remarks by BJP MP from Unnao, Sakshi Maharaj that laws could be brought again, if needed. "Bills are made and repealed. They will come again, and will be made again. It hardly takes any time (bills to bante rehte hai, bigadte rehte hai...wapas aa jayenge, dobara ban jaayenge...koi der nahi lagtee hai)," Maharaj had said on Sunday.

In another tweet, Mayawati posted, “But, I would thank Modiji that he displayed a big heart and chose the nation over the laws. Those with malafide intentions and those who had raised slogans of Pakistan zindabad and Khalistan zindabad, have got a befitting reply.”

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the Centre would repeal the three contentious Farm laws after the nearly year-long agitation by a section of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
