On the occasion of the World Population Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced the population policy 2021-30 expressing the Government’s intention to enact a new law to make the various strategies being adopted to control the population more effective.
“We need to control the fertility rate. People of every caste, religion, community will have to pay attention and control the increasing population. I am very happy that this new policy has been announced on the occasion of World Population Day,” the CM said during the function.
Under the new population policy, the Government has set a target to reduce the birth rate to 1.9 per cent.
Yogi said that concerns were raised from time to time that the increasing population could be a hindrance in the nation’s development. It has been discussed many times over the last four decades but nothing happened.
“More efforts are needed for population control. The role of awareness in this matter is very important,” he said, adding that the population policy is the concern of every citizen as the increasing population is a reason for poverty.
Yogi said the population policy is not only concerned with population stabilisation but also to bring happiness and prosperity in the life of every citizen.
He said that while making efforts for population stabilisation, we also have to keep in mind that this does not affect the demographic balance of the country. In order to make the population policy effective, he also emphasised on coordination among departments along with spreading awareness among different sections.
