Youngest Cabinet; the qualified entry

In line with the BJP’s efforts to promote the youth, the average age of the newly-sworn in 43 Ministers is 56 years while the average age of the new Council of Ministers is 58 years. Previously, the average age of the council of Ministers was 61 years.

This is probably the youngest Cabinet in India’s history. Nisith Pramanik (35), the Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal’s Cooch Behar, is the youngest Minister to be sworn in, while the oldest member in the Council of Ministers is 72-year-old Som Parkash.

Similarly, on the educational front, from Harvard and Stanford University to Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, newly inducted Ministers are well qualified. Gwalior MP Jyotiraditya Scindia (50) has an MBA degree from Stanford University and BA from Harvard University while BL Verma, a Rajya Sabha MP, studied from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. Of the 43 newly inducted Ministers, eight are lawyers, four PhD, four doctors, two civil servants, three MBA, two M.Tech and one B.Tech degree holders. Besides, there are also BCA, BA degree holders.

At least 14 Ministers are below 50 which include six Cabinet Ministers. The list of Ministers who are below 50 years in the Union Cabinet include Smriti Irani (45), Kiren Rijiju (49), Mansukh Mandaviya (49), Kailash Choudhary (47), Sanjeev Balyan (49), Anurag Thakur (46), Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar (42), Anupriya Singh Patel (40), Shantanu Thakur (38), John Barla (45) and Dr L Murugan (44).

Gwalior MP Jyotiraditya M Scindia (50) has an MBA degree from Stanford University and BA from Harvard University.  Rajeev Chandrasekhar( 57)  a Rajya Sabha MP for Karnataka and has an MTech in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology, along with Advanced Management Program from Harvard University.

Dr Satya Pal Singh Baghel (61) a Lok Sabha MP for Agra and he holds a PhD in Military Science from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut and LLB from the same. He also holds a degree in MA and MSc.

Anupriya Singh Patel a Lok Sabha MP for Mirzapur. Prior to beginning her political career, she worked as a Professor at Amity University, and has a MBA from Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.

Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ( 58) holds LLB degree from Guwahati University; Bhupender Yadav (52)a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, also holds LLB degree from Government College Ajmer; Meenakshi Lekhi (54) is also a Supreme Court lawyer  and MP from New Delhi and has studied LLB from Delhi University;  L Murugan (44) has practiced as a Lawyer in Madras High Court for 15 years before joining full-time public life. He holds a LLM and PhD in Law from Madras University. Ajay Kumar (60) is a Lok Sabha MP for Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, who holds BSc and LLB from Kanpur University. Ajay Bhatt (60) is a Lok Sabha MP for Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar in Uttarakhand, also holds LLB degree from Kumaun University. Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma (63) is a Lok Sabha MP for Jalaun, holds MA LLB from Bundelkhand University.

Munjapara Mahendrabhai ( 52) is a Lok Sabha MP for Surendranagar in Gujarat and holds an MD in General Medicine and Therapeutics from Gujarat University. He is renowned Cardiologist and professor of medicine. Bharati Pravin Pawar (42) is a first time Lok Sabha MP for Dindori in Maharashtra, holds MBBS degree in Surgery from NDMVPS Medical College, Nashik.

Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad (64) is a Rajya Sabha MP  and holds MBBS, MS (General Surgery), MCh (Pediatric Surgery), and FCPS (General Surgery) degrees from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and Mumbai University. He also runs Dr Karad Multi Specialty Hospital & Research Center in Aurangabad. Subhas Sarkar (67) is a Lok Sabha MP for Bankura in West Bengal,who holds an MBBS degree from Calcutta University and Certificate in Ultra Sonography, Infertlity and Laparoscopy.

Sagar MP Dr Virendra Kumar (67) has PhD degree in child labour from Dr Hari Singh Gaur University;

Nalanda MP Ramchandra Prasad Singh (63) is a retired civil servant of 1984 batch, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, he holds an MA in International Relations.

Ashwini Vaishnav ( 50) is a former IAS officer of 1994 batch from Odisha. He has a MBA from Wharton School, Pennysylvania University and MTech from IIT Kanpur. He managed to wrangle support from the ruling BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik despite being in the rival camp.

Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, (68) is a first time MP for Inner Manipur in Manipur and holds a MA and PhD in Geography from Guwahati University. Prior to his political career, he had a four decade long career as an Geography Professor, ending as Director of College Development Council in Manipur University.

John Barla ( 45)was a tea garden worker and a first time Lok Sabha MP for Alipurduars in West Bengal.

Bhagwanth Khuba (54) an MP for Bidar in Karnataka, hold a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sree Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur.
