The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its nod for the setting up of a Central University in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The decision was taken at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of addressing regional imbalances in higher education and stimulating the intellectual current within the broader society of Ladakh, said Union Minister Anurag Thakur briefing media.
“The University will address the regional imbalances at the higher education level and stimulate the intellectual current within the broader society of Ladakh. This will also be instrumental in strengthening democratic values and promoting overall growth and development of Ladakh,” said Thakur.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi also approved a Rs 6,322-crore production linked incentive (PLI) scheme to boost production of specialty steel in India. Thakur said that incentives worth Rs 6,322 crore will be provided over five years and it would create over 5.25 lakh jobs.
