In a major blow to hotels, restaurants and dhabas ahead of festive season, the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cooking gas were hiked by Rs 266 from Monday onwards by Oil marketing companies (OMCs).
Commercial cylinders of the 19 kg in Delhi will cost Rs 2,000.50 against Rs 1,734 earlier.
However, in a major respite for a common man, the hike will not be applicable on domestic LPG cylinders. On the other hand, petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the sixth consecutive day across the country on Monday. In the National Capital, with a hike of 35 paise a litre, the price of petrol rose to Rs 109.69 per litre while the price of diesel increased by the same amount to cost Rs 98.42 a litre.
In Mumbai, Rs 1,950 will have to be spent for a commercial gas cylinder of 19 kg. Now a 19 kg gas cylinder in Kolkata will cost Rs 2,073.50, while in Chennai Rs 2,133.
The two main factors that determine the prices of LPG cylinders in India are the exchange rate of the rupee and the global crude oil prices. The Government provides 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg each household at subsidized rates.
The increase in subsidised LPG price now has taken the cumulative rate hike since January 1 to Rs 205 per cylinder.
