Gifts given to Modi to  go under the hammer

Gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, memorabilia like sports gear and equipment of the medal winning Olympians and Paralympians, replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Chardham, Rudraksh Convention Centre, models, sculptures, paintings, angavastra, etc,  will soon be e-auctioned by the Union Culture Ministry.

In an official statement on Thursday, the Ministry said interested parties can participate in the e -auction through the website: pmmementos.gov.in between September 17 and October 7, 2021. Any individual can also take part in the e-auction, said the  Ministry.

It said proceeds from the e-auction shall go to the Namami Gange Mission aimed at conserving and rejuvenating the Ganga.

This is not the first time Modi has offered his gifts for auction. In January 2019, 1,900 such gifts were also put up for auction. A statue of Gautam Buddha, which had a base price of Rs 4,000 fetched Rs 7 lakh back in January.

Similarly in September 2019, from idols of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha to as much as 576 shawls were auctioned. A whopping 964 angavastram, 88 pagris that he was presented at various official events were put up for sale. National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi had been displaying these items. But now because of Covid-19, the items are being auctioned online, said a senior official from the Ministry.
