Adi Shankaracharya was the rectifier of eternal religion (Sanaatan dharm). It is because of him that Sanaatan dharma is safe till date, Dr Indubhavanand, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Ashram chief, said on Wednesday.

The Ashram celebrated the birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya by holding

different religious events including recitals of Vedic hymns. All the devotees were asked to celebrate their events by remaining in their house.

Dr Indubhavanand said in his address that Adi Shankaracharya along with his four disciples tried to remove the ills prevailing in the religion.

He established four monasteries in four directions and handed over them to his disciples. They are based at Dwarka in the west, Jagannatha Puri in the east, Shringeri in the south as well as Badri in the north.

Those heading these mutts are still revered as Shankaracharya, he said.
