‘Haider to be big threat if not nabbed soon'

Wednesday, 14 April 2021 | RAJESH BEHERA | KENDRAPADA

According to  some police officers, who were earlier posted in Kendrapada district and also involved in arresting Haider, the rickshaw puller-turned-notorious gangster, Sk Haider, has a good  crime network not only in Kendrapada , Cuttack and Bhubaneswar  but also in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurdha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak , Sundergarh and Balangir districts. Though he was in was in jail for last 16 years ,but he managed to operate the crime syndicate from inside the jail by making an unholy nexus with some unscrupulous jail staff and police personnel. Now, after he escaped from jail, one can presume how dangerous he would be for the society in the coming days. If Haider  will not be nabbed very soon, then in coming days he would emerge as a major threat for the police department as he would once again let loose his reign of terror in the State.

It would be a difficult task to nab Haider as he used to engage middlemen, including women, at the Railway stations and bus stands in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

They help their associates by arranging bus tickets, railway tickets to flee from the State after completing the crime, said some of the retired police officers. It cann’t be ruled out that the hardcore history sheeter,Haider might have hidden himself outside the State as Haider earlier had developed his network and good rapport at Hyderabad, Gujurat ,West Bengal and  also at Bangalore. His associates used to take shelter in the hideouts at these States, after committing crimes in Odisha.

Haider used to purchase arms like 9 mm sophisticated pistol and revolvers from the gun runners of West Bengal and Bihar. The arms and ammunitions of the gang members are more sophisticated than the police department. So it is feared Haider would make arms deal in near future with the gunrunners, stated a senior police officer.
