A showcause notice has been issued to Tata Project Ltd for imposing penalty for not completing work within a time period under the BharatNet project Phase 2, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Tuesday.
Baghel was replying to a question raised by BJP's Ajay Chandrakar regarding the BharatNet project Phase-2 in the Assembly.
Chandrakar had sought details of the contribution of central and state governments, work completed in villages and pending work, extra time given to the implementation agency and penalty imposed or deducted for delaying the project.
The Chief Minister said a total of Rs 2,464.14 crores have been received from the Centre and Rs 112.82 crores is the state's contribution.
The project envisaged to provide broadband connection to 5,987 villages, out of which till January 31, 2021 work has been completed in 2,764 villages and work is in progress in 3,223.
The project has been sanctioned to Tata Project Ltd for eight years. Three times, the deadline has been extended. The delay is due to procedures to obtain permission from village panchayat, forest, railways and other departments.
A show cause notice has been issued to the company to impose penalty for the delay, he said.
