Strong resentment is brewing among the residents of Baleswar as sevices of several passenger trains running through Baleswar station, especially between Howrah and Bhubaneswar, have not been restored although the Corona restrictions have been eased.
Reports said that as many as seven pairs of trains both in the up and down lines were running on the route prior to the advent of the Corona.
However, currently only two trains , Bangiripohi- Bhubaneswar ( express trains) and Bhadrak- Howrah , (Baghajatin – a passenger train) are available for the train users. Baghajatin although is a passenger train yet currently the fare is charged at par with express train after it resumed its operation after easing of the Corona restrictions. The fare escalation has caused considerable hardship on the commuters who were otherwise able to go to Howrah with a very nominal fare.
Similarly in the morning hours while only one train to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is available, it is difficult to get a seat as all the seats remin booked in advance.
The bus fares have witnessed a hike due to escalation of price in diesel. The commuters who were availing the trains to Cuttack and beyond for medical reasons are facing immense difficulties owing to non availability of trains.
Thus the residents here have appealed to the Railways to restore services of old trains and provide adequate number of trains as in the neighbouring States most of the trains which were halted earlier have resumed their operations .
