The Central University of Odisha (CUO) organised a webinar on ‘Covid-19, Human Trafficking and Gender Perspective’ on November 20. The programme was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor I/c Prof Sharat Kumar Palita.
Prof Palita spoke about the necessity for gender equality and women empowerment. Former DGP, Kerala Dr PM Nair joining as speaker said human trafficking is a social menace and underscored a need to establish trafficking units for prevention of the crime. Founder of Red Rope Chrsolyte Sanmada elaborated on the rise in trafficking and need to establish units for anti-trafficking. Social activists like Merlin Sherin and Arunima shed light on practical aspects to curb trafficking.
Sociology Department head Dr Kapila Khemundu initiated the discussion while Dr Nupur Pattanaik coordinated. The programme was attended by the faculty, staffs, research scholars and students from various parts of the country.
