With Uttar Pradesh administering 50 lakh Covid vaccine doses to people in the 18-44 age group, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a high-level Covid review meeting in Lucknow on Thursday, declared that over 10-12 lakh doses would be given everyday from July.
“Right now we are administering around 4 lakh doses every day, but it should be increased to around 5 to 6 lakh within the next two-three days. The target is to expand daily doses to 10-12 lakh by July. UP should be able to cover at least 10 crore people in the next three months To meet the new target, intensify the number of vaccinators by training nursing students amongst others,” he said. Daily vaccination figures have been at a record high since the start of ‘Mission June’. On June 9, around 3.91 lakh doses of Covid vaccine were administered to residents of the state.
“Uttar Pradesh is the first state to cross the landmark of 50 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered to people in the 18 to 44 year age group. Despite being the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh is conducting aggressive vaccination of the 18+ category to counter the pandemic surge,” the chief minister said.
Emphasising that only a massive Covid vaccination programme on a war footing could help to stop the third Corona wave, Yogi asked officials to prepare a district-wise strategy to meet the target .
Meanwhile, the Health department said that the cumulative number of Covid vaccine doses administered in the state have exceeded 2.15 crores. Of this, around 1.78 crore have been given the first dose, while the remaining 37.01 lakh have received both doses of the vaccine.
Vulnerable groups such as street vendors, auto rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers, bus drivers and conductors will be vaccinated at special centres set up in each district from June 14 for which district magistrates have been directed to appoint nodal officers. Driver Booths and Street Vendor Booths will be set up in Nagar Nigams, Nagar Palikas and Transport department offices.
