101 cows rescued while being trafficked

Police on Saturday night rescued as many as 101 cattle near Simulia College Chhak in Baleswar district while the animals were being trafficked in six pickup vans. According to reports, the cops intercepted the vehicles and found the cattle inside. Six drivers and a helper have been detained for questioning in this connection. The animals were being transported in the vans from Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak district to West Bengal, sources said. The rescued cattle were been sent to a Goshala at Maitapur. In another incident, five cattle were killed as a pickup van, by which they were being transported, overturned on the Bhadrak-Dhamnagar road near Bhandaripadi Chhak on Sunday.

The driver of the van lost control over the wheels, as a result of which the vehicle turned turtle on roadside killing five cattle on the spot. However, 20 cattle were rescued by locals. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot after the mishap. Police seized the van and started an investigation.
