105-year-old Kartar Kaur Becomes mascot of vaccination against corona

Monday, 12 April 2021 | PNS | Moga

As every person above the age of 45 years is being vaccinated in India, 105-year old Kartar Kaur has become the unlikely mascot of awareness on Corona vaccination in the country.

While vaccination is being given full support by the educated and socially aware people, there are some under the influence of ignorance, who are creating superstitions and misconceptions about this. Kartar Kaur, the 105-year-old lady from Moga, carried the flag to create awareness among the people, where she and her family have been vaccinated.

Although Kartar Kaur belongs to village Bhinder Khurd, she is now living with her son Harpinder Singh in Moga.  She along with her family got vaccinated in a camp in Ward No. 3.  The camp was organised under the leadership of her grandson and former councillor Manjit Singh Mann. More than 188 people were vaccinated in the camp.  At present Manjit Singh Mann’s wife, Amanpreet Kaur Mann is the Councilor of Ward No.3.

The family informed that Mata Kartar Kaur has been vaccinated on the sheer strength of her will and determination and was not pressured by anyone. The 105-year old thinks that vaccination is mandatory to prevent this disease and said that even if it was not the turn of some people to get vaccinated, they should follow the instructions of the government and the health department. She said she did not have fever or any other problem after being vaccinated, adding that a healthy person has no fear of any kind of problem.

Praising the spirit of Kartar Kaur, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans appealed to the people above the age of 45 years to get rid of all illusions and get themselves and their families vaccinated.  He said that this vaccination was being carried out in Civil Hospital Moga, all CHCs, 91 Health Wellness Centers.  Apart from this special camps are also being organized in different areas.
