12-yr-old boy ends life over online gaming

The stress over online games claimed yet another victim as a 12-year-old boy hanged himself to death in Kharavel Nagar here on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Jashobant Routray, a Class-VIII student of a private school in Cuttack, where he was staying with his uncle.

He had come home here recently. Sources said the boy used to fiddle with his mobile phone most of the time. On Sunday night, he and one of his friends were busy playing online games till late night.

 In the morning, he was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in the house. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Though family members of the deceased have not provided any exact reason behind the suicide, they said that the child used to remain aloof  most of the time.

Hence, it is suspected that he was under severe mental stress due to excess online gaming or betting.

The Kharavel Nagar police have registered an unnatural death case and sent the body for postmortem. The reason behind the death would be ascertained soon after investigation, said police.
