14 pvt hospitals turned into Covid facilities in Delhi

Amid the sharp surge of Covid-19 cases in the Capital, the health department of the Delhi Government declared 14 big private hospitals as fully Covid care centres on Monday.

The decision to convert hospitals into Covid-19 treatment centres came after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal chaired an emergency meeting in view of Covid -19 situation in the Capital.

As per Directorate General of Health Services, Delhi Government, the occupancy of beds has crossed more than 87 percent in 57 out of 115 private hospitals and has reached almost 100 percent almost in large private hospitals. The occupancy of Covid wards beds crossed more than 85 percent in 32 out of 115 private hospitals and has reached 100 percent in large private hospitals.

Those hospitals which are declared as fully Covid hospitals include Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, Maharaja Agarsen Hospital (Punjabi Bagh), Max Hospital (Shalimar Bagh), Fortis Hospital (Shalimar Bagh), Venkateshwar Hospital, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Jaipur Golden Hospital, Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute, Manipal Hospital and Saroj Super Specialty Hospital.

In order to augment the bed capacity for Covid -19 patients in view of unprecedented surge of Covid cases in past few days, 14 private hospitals are declared as full Covid hospitals and are directed that henceforth these will not admit any non-Covid patients till further order,” an order issued by the Delhi government stated.

The Chief Minister also urged the people of Delhi to cooperate with the Government in checking the spread of the infection and urged the people to follow Covid protocols, to not rush to the hospitals unnecessarily and ensure that they get vaccinated.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Health Secretary, Health Secretary, and other health officials were present in the meeting. In the meeting, the officials apprised the CM regarding the number of beds available in all the government and private hospitals in Delhi.

 

 They told the CM that the beds are rapidly getting occupied by the Corona patients in Delhi.

Kejriwal said that beds should be increased in all the private and government hospitals in Delhi. “The bed count must be at par with the available bed count in November last year when Corona was at its peak. We must ensure our bed availability in government and private hospitals to be at par with November last year, and we will further request the Central government to increase Covid beds in central government hospitals as well,” he said.

Kejriwal further said that the objective of his government is to provide the best Corona treatment facilities to the people of Delhi. He posed three requests to the people of Delhi - following Covid protocols, not rushing to hospitals unnecessarily, and getting vaccinated.

He expressed concerns over people with very mild or no symptoms reaching hospitals and occupying beds, which is leading to an increase in the number of patients in hospitals. He said that the beds should be available only for serious patients and all other patients must be treated under home isolation.

The chief minister also instructed the officials to convert private and government hospitals to fully Covid dedicated hospitals.
