For the second day in a row, the number of deaths in Uttar Pradesh stood below the 300-mark at 296 on Sunday even as  23,333 fresh cases were reported during the last 24 hours.  As many as 34,636 patients recovered in the same period.
Health officials said in Lucknow that at present, there are 2.33 lakh active Covid cases across the state and the figure is 77,000 less as compared to that on April 30. The state has also carried out 4.29 crore tests. Around 2.29 lakh sample tests were tested in the last 24 hours, of which 1.11 lakh were RT-PCR tests.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked officials to further strengthen the Covid testing across the state as also the capacity of laboratories.
Interacting with the Team-9 members in Lucknow on Sunday, Yogi said that the government machinery has to be prepared for all challenges in view of the corona spread.
“We have to double the medical equipment and human resources.  Increase the bed capacity in L-2 and L-3 hospitals and the Medical Education department should ensure that 15,000 additional beds with oxygen facilities are added to various hospitals in the next few days,” the CM said, adding that the supply of oxygen to all the 75 districts should be monitored round the clock.
“In the last 24 hours, nearly 950 MT of oxygen has been supplied and distributed across the state. Continuous efforts are being made to increase the supply further. Oxygen Express trains have supplied oxygen to Lucknow and Kanpur and other districts. Similarly, better arrangements are being made for adjoining districts like Saharanpur, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.  Around 40 MT of oxygen was sent to Varanasi on Saturday. Preparations are underway to run special trains for Gorakhpur and adjoining districts,” the CM said.
Yogi said that based on the preliminary report of oxygen audit, its consumption has been found to be several times more than required in some hospitals. Necessary action should be taken against such hospitals, he said.
The chief minister also stressed on making proper arrangements to provide oxygen to Covid patients in home isolation and non-Covid patients down with other serious diseases.
“Immediate oxygen supply should be made on the basis of patients’ Covid reports, any other examination, symptoms or consultation with doctors for supply to their homes,” he said.
Yogi said that there have been cases of mental and physical problems in some people who recovered after contracting the infection. “For the purpose of quick diagnosis of these post-Covid problems,  hospitals should be open in all 75 district hospitals.  Psychiatrists, physiotherapists should be deployed here so that people can be counselled,” the chief minister said.
