40% healthcare workers turn up for Covid-19 shots’ in Chandigarh

Around 40 per cent of healthcare workers against the registered beneficiaries turned up for the Covid-19 vaccination in the union territory of Chandigarh on the second day of vaccination drive on Tuesday.

A total of 204 health care workers were given doses of vaccination on Tuesday against the upper limit of 500 beneficiaries and no major side effects were reported, said an official spokesman of UT Administration.

Five sites were set up for the vaccination drive in the city. The spokesman said that a total of 90 beneficiaries were vaccinated in GMSH-16, 20 HCWs in CH-Sector 45, 35 HCWs at GMCH-32 site one, 29 at GMCH-32 at site two and 30 HCWs at Air Force Station here. Around 100 beneficiaries are allowed to be vaccinated at each session site.

Till now, 578 healthcare workers (HCWs) have been vaccinated in Chandigarh since the launch of vaccination drive for Covid-19 on January 16.  On the day of the launch of vaccination, 374 health workers had received their first dose of vaccination.

The next vaccination session in Chandigarh would be held on Thursday, the spokesman added. The Administration had received 12000 doses of Covishield, developed by the Oxford University scientists in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

 

31 FRESH CASES IN CHANDIGARH

31 fresh Covid-19 cases were detected in Chandigarh on Tuesday taking the total infections to 20,595.

In the last 24 hours, no death has been reported in the city due to the virus. The death toll due to Covid-19 stood at 330, as per the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

The bulletin stated, “17 males and 14 females were tested positive in the last 24 hours. There were 185 active cases till the evening.”

49 patients recovered in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 20,080, it stated.

2,02,434 samples have so far been tested in the city. A total of 1,005 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the report of 67 was awaited, the bulletin added.
