Five persons, including four police personnel from Madhya Pradesh, died in a road accident on Yamuna Expressway in Mathura on Friday morning.
The ill-fated policemen from Budera police station of Tikamgarh district in MP were heading to Haryana in an SUV along with three others to rescue a kidnapped girl when the tragedy struck.
Three others, including a police head constable, sustained injuries in the incident and they were admitted to a Mathura hospital.
As per reports, the SUV carrying the men in uniform crashed into a road divider and overturned, leaving four people dead on the spot while a constable was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The deceased were identified as head constable Bhawani Prasad (52), woman constable Heera Devi Prajapati (32), constable Kamlendra Yadav (28), driver Jagdish and Police Mitra Ravi Kumar. The injured were identified as head constable Rati Ram, Dharmendra Kumar and Preeti.
On getting information, personnel from Surir police station of Mathura rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to a nearby hospital. Later the bodies were sent for post-mortem and an investigation into the accident was initiated.
