Saturday, 23 October 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

After finding the corpses of five trekkers from Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh (HP) on Thursday, the authorities have found five more bodies and a survivor on the trekking route of Harsil in Uttarkashi to Chitkul in HP. However, the disaster management officer of Uttarkashi, Devendra Patwal informed that it is yet to be identified whether the dead people are the missing trekkers. He said, “We have recovered the five bodies which appear to be of the trekkers but it cannot be confirmed yet as we have no means to identify them yet.”

He added that the person who was recovered alive is currently under treatment. Moreover, the officer also informed that the district administration has also received information that the authorities in HP have also found two dead bodies. “We cannot say for sure if the dead bodies found there are of the missing trekkers or people accompanying them from Uttarkashi. The search is still on with the help of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and we will continue to look for the missing people on Saturday too,” stated Patwal.  He added that the authorities have found a total of 10 dead bodies and recovered two people alive in the past three days. If the two bodies found in the HP turn out to be the missing people here, the authorities will be required to look for the remaining two people, stated Patwal.
