65 deaths, 2,210 cases in Punjab

Sixty-five more people succumbed to the deadly coronavirus in Punjab on Tuesday, pushing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 6,813, taking the case fatality rate (CFR) to 2.88 percent. Besides, the state added 2,210 fresh cases to its tally, which has reached 2,36,790, in the past 24 hours.

Ten of the total fatalities reported in the state are reported from Hoshiarpur; followed by seven each from Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Nawanshahr; six from Sangrur; five from Ropar; four from Amritsar, Kapurthala, Patiala; three from Bathinda and Gurdaspur; two from Fatehgarh Sahib; and one each from Barnala, Mohali, and Pathankot.

Among the districts, Amritsar reported the maximum 331 fresh cases, followed by Ludhiana with 329, Jalandhar with 310 cases, SAS Nagar (Mohali) 273, Hoshiarpur 188, Patiala 126, Gurdaspur 120, Kapurthala 105, among others. Currently, the State has 23,731 active cases — amounting to 10.02 percent of the total positive cases. Of these, 315 patients are on oxygen support; while 39 are critical and on ventilator support.

A total of 2,536 patients were discharged after recovering from the deadly contagion. With this, the state’s total recoveries has reached 2,06,246 at the rate of 87.10 percent. The state registered a positivity rate of 8.75 percent on Tuesday, with just about 25,260 tests conducted in a single day, against the state’s capacity to conduct 30,000 tests.
