650 Covid-19 fresh cases, 8 more die in Chandigarh

Chandigarh has been registering a decline in Covid-19 infections for the last four days in a row. The city's Covid tally increased to 54,043 as it recorded 650 new cases on Friday.

On May 9, 895 Covid-19 cases were reported while 863 on May 10, 787 on May 11, 776 on May 12 and 760 on May 13. However, there was no respite in the number of fatalities in the city as eight more persons lost their lives on Friday. The deaths took the toll to 617. The city now has 8158 active cases.

The total number of samples tested in the last 24 hours was 3361 while the overall number of tests conducted was 454,814.  While cases were reported from all sectors, Manimajra reported 74 new cases and Mauli Jagran had 24 cases. As many as 925 people were discharged from various facilities of the city. Moreover, 4447 more people were vaccinated, taking the total count to 273,475.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Administration said it was launching an online e-permit system to help COVID-19 patients access medical oxygen at home. Those who need oxygen cylinders could file an application for e-permits with a doctor’s prescription and proof of address. The application could be submitted to chandigarh.gov.in/health_covid19.htm . Once the application is approved, the applicant will get intimation.

929 IN 18-45 AGE GROUP VACCINATED

With the Chandigarh administration launching the vaccination drive for the age group 18-45 on Friday,  929 people were vaccinated. Amandeep Kaur Kang, Director, Health Services, UT said only pre-booked appointment based-vaccinations took place.  The vaccination booking slots for the 18 plus beneficiaries opened at 2:55 pm on Wednesday and in just an hour, 8,000 slots for Covid vaccination for eight day in the age group of 18-45 years were booked in the city. Kang said, “Now, there is no slot available on the CoWIN portal till May 22 for this age group.
