9 inmates of 2 prisons in Gajapati infected

The deadly coronavirus which is raging in the State has now spread to jails, posing a health risk to the lives of the inmates and the prison staffs.

On Sunday, as many as nine inmates of two jails in Gajapati district tested positive for the virus,  the district administration said.While three prisoners of Paralakhemundi Sub Jail were  found infected , six inmates of  the R Udayagiri Sub Jail  were found also found have contracted the virus.  All the infectees have been reportedly kept in isolation cells in  respective jails. The State Government has already issued an SOP to prevent spread of Covid-19 in jails.

As per the SOP,  if anybody (both inmates and employees) are found positive for Covid-19, should be sent to the ‘dedicated Covid Care Centre or hospital by the concerned remanding agencies.
