Food and Civil Supplies Minister of Delhi Imran Hussain Wednesday reviewed the situation arising out of the sudden and undue increase in the retail prices of tomato in the markets of Delhi.
Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies (CFS), Joint Commissioner and senior officers of the intelligence team of Food and Civil Supplies Department attended the meeting. Hussain directed the commissioner to instruct the Market Intelligence Unit to depute teams in the market for ascertaining the reasons for abrupt increase in the prices.
He also reviewed the price trend of other commodities like Onion, potato and other essential commodities and directed the officers to take effective action against any essential commodity hoarding activity The minister directed that the intelligence teams should also gather information about instances of hoarding and/ or black marketing of tomatoes, if any, so that the concerned departments could initiate necessary action against them under the Essential Commodity Act.
