The accused in the murder of housewife Priyanka Priyadarshini on July 6 at Bhimatangi here was interrogated by the Airfield police after he was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

The cops are likely to produce the accused Jagannath Pradhan in a local court after his grilling in connection with the incident, reports said.

Pradhan, a resident of Mangalpur in Jajpur district, was admitted to Capital Hospital as he allegedly attempted to end his life after killing Priyanka. As he had severe injuries, he was later referred to te AIIMS-Bhubaneswar for plastic surgery. He was discharged on the day after his recovery. Jagannath had killed Priyanka by slitting her throat at a rented house at Bhimatangi where she was staying with her husband and three-year-old son. The crime is believed to be the fallout of a past love affair. The accused had planned to eliminate Priyanka and her minor son. However, the three-year-old escaped unhurt as he was not present during the incident. Jagannath had reportedly a relationship with Priyanka before her marriage. Later, Jagannath had cut off all relations with her and left for Bengaluru for a job. However, he had returned back to his village due to the lockdown for the pandemic in 2020.

In the meantime, their relationship developed once again after Priyanka had allegedly contacted him through Facebook.  Family members of the accused said that Jagannath had posted a message on a family Whatsapp group on the fateful day that Priyanka had ruined his life.
