ACF death: Police claim crucial lead in case

Friday, 23 July 2021 | PNS | PNSPARALAKHEMUNDI

A crucial lead in Paralakhemundi Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra’s death mystery has been obtained which would help in the investigation process, said Southern Range DIG Satyabrata Bhoi on Thursday.Bhoi said investigation into the incident is going on from all angles and allegations levelled by Soumya’s family would be given importance.“A case has been registered under Section 302 of IPC. I had a discussion with the Gajapati SP, investigating officer and Crime Branch officials over the case today. We also discussed the findings in the investigation so far. Our investigating team recently returned from Mayurbhanj and Baleswar after completing their probe. So far, we have made satisfactory progress in case and we hope everything will be clear soon." Meanwhile, , the Crime Branch on day claimed to have  circumstantial evidence of fire that had occurred at Soumya’s residential quarters in Paralakhemundi.

During a search, the investigators found burn marks on the backdoor and mosquito net in the house, a Crime Branch official said. The Crime Branch team would also verify the call details of deceased ACF and his wife Bidyabharati to ascertain the reason behind alleged murder case. The Crime Branch is likely to interrogate Gajapati DFO Sangram Keshari Behera in connection with the case.

However, in another twist in the case, one more piece of handwritten note from his wife Bidyabharati’s diary has surfaced, which apparently indicates that she wanted divorce from her husband. In note written allegedly by Bidyabharati,  it was mentioned she was seeking divorce from Saumya Ranjan desperately.“Oh God, help me get divorce anyhow,” the note mentioned. She has also expressed her hatred for someone, seemingly Saumya Ranjan, in the note.Earlier, another such note had come to fore, in which she had mentioned that she hated her husband. “I had written it after knowing about his extramarital affair to express my sorrow. The note has no relevance with his death,”  Bidyabharati had said. “I hate you the most in world. I hate this man. Even hate to combine my name with his. I spoiled my life for all my stupid decisions,” the note read. The note was seized by police from Bidyabharati’s diary.
