AIIMS, Bhopal, grabs second place in research

Tuesday, 12 October 2021 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal has grabbed second place in matters of medical research, after AIIMS Delhi.

While talking to media persons here on Monday, AIIMS Bhopal President Professor YK Gupta said, “The doctors, faculty, and the staff have worked tremendously hard to achieve this feat. We are also working towards making medical procedures more affordable and accessible to the residents of Madhya Pradesh in the coming time.”

He informed that by October 18, medical tests and procedures like X-rays, blood tests and urinary tests which cost less than ?50 will be provided for free to all AIIMS patients in an attempt to reduce administrative lines and help the pockets of patients.

“Our aim with this decision is to fast track the administrative processes and lift the economical burden from patients,” Gupta sais, adding, “We do not want patients of Madhya Pradesh to go out of state to avail medical help but rather come to our institute for treatment."

AIIMS Bhopal calculated and found that the institute can provide such services for free to the patients without taking a big financial hit, Gupta said. “We generate ?8 to ?10 crores (per annum) from such tests and we believe we can provide these services to our patients for free.”

The AIIMS Bhopal campus managed the COVID-19 crisis pretty well by turning an 'adverse situation into an opportunity', said AIIMS Bhopal Director Professor Sarman Singh, who was also present on the occasion.

“Our institute was at the forefront of many kinds of medical researches during the pandemic and published many types of research in well respected international journals,” Singh added.

The institute did not provide exact figures and numbers regarding its excelling research division at the time of publishing the article. AIIMS Bhopal is also aiming to develop its own transplant center to meet the demand of its patients in the coming time, Singh said who is set to leave the post of Director of AIIMS Bhopal next month.
