The UP government on Sunday slammed Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for making repeated statements against the government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the management of Covid pandemic and relief measures.
Government spokesman and Cabinet minister Sidarth Nath Singh said Akhilesh Yadav is indulging in petty politics instead of helping the people on ground.
Criticising the series of statements issued by the SP president, the minister said: “Akhilesh Yadav is busy in spreading confusion and the former CM should learn from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that despite being Covid positive, he continued to work in public interest.”
“The CM did not rest for a day despite being Covid positive a few days ago and even held regular meetings with health officials. As soon as the CM tested negative, he started visiting the districts to have a first-hand account of preparations to provide relief to people affected by the pandemic,” Singh said, adding: “It is easy for opposition leaders to indulge in hair-splitting and issue statements from the comforts of their air-conditioned rooms.”
He said first Akhilesh Yadav created confusion among the people in the name of “BJP’s vaccine” and now he has been talking about making a policy on vaccination.
“He is misleading the public by indulging in petty politics and issuing irresponsible statements during this time of crisis,” Singh said.
The minister asked the SP president as to how many districts he has visited so far to get a hang of the ground reality and help people of the state.
He said that during the last few days, Yogi has reviewed health facilities in about 38 districts, physically or virtually. He said the state government would provide free rations to the weaker section and financial assistance to daily-wagers of urban areas like last year.
Singh said that four lakh members of more than 60,000 surveillance committees have been pressed into service by the Yogi government for door-to-door surveys while rapid response teams are conducting tests and delivering medical kits to patients.
He said that more than 44 million people have been tested so far in the state while more than 1.45 crore vaccine doses have been administered.  Food is being delivered to all the needy through community kitchens, he added.
Singh said while respected institutions like WHO, NITI Aayog and Bombay High Court are appreciating the Covid management model of the Uttar Pradesh government, the SP is making a mockery of itself by making petty and false statements. He also asked Akhilesh Yadav to shun complacency and help the people in distress.
