All the 12 official candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party are set to get elected unopposed in the biennial elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on January 21.
On Tuesday, the nomination of independent candidate Mahesh Chandra Sharma was rejected during scrutiny of the papers.
Sharma of Kanpur had filed his papers on the last day of filing of nomination on Monday but it did not have proposers and fee receipt as per the norms.
Now all the 12 candidates would be declared elected unopposed on January 21, the last date for withdrawal of nomination.
The 10 BJP candidates are Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh, Laxman Acharya, bureaucrat-turned-politician AK Sharma, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, Gopal Narain Shukla, Salil Bishnoi, Ashwini Tyagi, Dr Dharamveer Prajapati and Surendra Choudhury. The two SP candidates are Ahmed Hasan and Rajendra Choudhury.
