Monday, 18 January 2021 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

To mark the 7th raising day, employees including doctors and nurses pledged for organ donation. This is the first time any private hospital in Odisha organised an event to support a noble cause.

‘Samaj’ Relief Committee secretary and Body & Organ Donation Society of India (BODI) president Dr Pravas Acharya gave an insight to the gathering at the AMRI Hospitals here about the importance and procedure of the organ donation and discussed about the attached myth and reality.

Body & Organ Donation Society of India (BODI) VP and former HOD (Surgery), SCB, Cuttack Prof PK Mohapatra discussed about the misconception relating to the difference between body donation and organ donation. Post session, many employees inquired about the legalities related to organ donation and the possible way of doing so.

“More than 5 lakh people die every year in India due to shortage/unavailability of organs. The organ donation rates in India is very poor around 0.3 million, as compared to some western countries where it is as high as 36 million. So, it is  time that everyone  realised the motto and pledged for organ donation," said AVP Operations and Administration, Unit In-charge, AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar Nilanjana Mukherjee.
