The Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Kumar Srivastava directed the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) to seek police assistance in order to regulate the crowd in Niranjanpur Mandi and ensure the proper implementation of Covid-19 guidelines. On Thursday, Srivastava paid a surprise visit to the Niranjanpur Mandi and checked whether the Covid guidelines are being followed at Mandi premises.
When the DM observed violation of Covid norms like no use of mask in a shop which was being operated amid unhygienic condition in the Mandi, he directed the secretary of the APMC, Vijay Thapliyal to take action against the offenders. He instructed Thapliyal to improve the sanitation facilities in the Mandi premises as most of the city's fruits and vegetables are supplied from this Mandi. He also asked Thapliyal to raise awareness in the Mandi and make certain that all the wholesalers and others use masks, sanitisers and maintain social distancing among consumers in front of the shops. Since the vehicles from other cities also arrive at the Mandi premises to deliver vegetables and fruits, the committee was also asked to follow all the Covid norms during the loading and unloading of produce.
He even instructed the committee to take the help of the police to control the crowd and to ensure proper implementation of Covid guidelines in the Mandi. Besides Srivastava, additional district magistrate, Bir Singh Budiyal and officials of APMC were also present during the Mandi inspection.
