A technical team of the Culture and Archaeological Department on Thursday visited the Bhoramdeo temple in Chhattisgarh's Kawardha district to study retoration work of the ancient shrine.
The heritage temple is facing seepage at the Garbhgriha, posing risk to the idol of Lord Shiva and the structure.
Following a suggestion from experts, the district administration has banned with immediate effect sprinkling of rice and chemically-made gulal to prevent the idol's erosion.
The technical team also wanted trees situated beside the temple to be trimmed, saying they were blocking the passage of rain water.
The archaeologists also considered filling work in the temple joints. The shrine is made of stone.
Built in the 11th century, the temple enjoys historical, tourist and religious importance.
