The Uttar Pradesh Police lost bright young officer Additional SP (Crime) Rahul Kumar in Etah to coronavirus on Wednesday. The young officer’s tragic death came just a few days after he lost his brother to the deadly virus infection on April 14 last.
As per information, Kumar got infected by the virus a few days back after returning from the funeral of his brother in Prayagraj. He was in home isolation and his wife along with her two little daughters were in Delhi to look after her father who was also Corona infected.
On Wednesday morning, Kumar was doing some exercises at home when he collapsed. Kumar’s mother was with him when he fell unconscious. His staff rushed him to Etah district hospital where he was declared dead by doctors. On being informed, DM of Etah Dr Vibha Chahal and SSP Uday Shankar Singh rushed to the hospital.
Later, the officer’s elder brother Nitish Kumar, who is Inspector General in National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi, reached Etah along with Kumar’s wife and the cremation was carried out later in the day.
The news sent shockwaves in the district as Kumar was a popular officer, who was respected by his subordinates and liked by the people who came in his contact. He was recently in the news for ensuring justice to a graduate dhaba operator who was wrongfully sent to jail after a fake encounter. After the victim pleaded for justice, Kumar took over the investigation and on finding it fake, ensured the youth’s release.
Meanwhile, after much brouhaha over the insensitivity of Jhansi SSP Rohan P Kanay, Sadar Circle Officer Manish Sonkar withdrew his resignation after DIG Joginder Kumar coaxed him into changing his mind. Sonkar had put in his papers after the SSP refused a six-day leave to look after his corona-infected wife and four-year-old daughter. After accepting Sonkar’s resignation and sending it to the Governor, the SSP issued the CO the requested leave.
Now, the PPS Association of UP has demanded action from DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi and Additional Chief Secretary Home Avnish Awasthi, against the insensitive SSP. The Association tweeted that CO, Manish Sonkar suffered mental torture barely for asking a leave for caring for his ailing wife and kid and requested the two top officers to take appropriate action against the SSP. Significantly, after this incident, the CO’s letter went viral on social media.
