Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia to families of those killed by Covid-19.

In a letter, the Chief Minister said that as per a yardstick in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Chhattisgarh was committed to pay its share Rs 1 lakh under the ratio 75:25.

Earlier, as per an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on September 11, the Union government announced ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to family members of the Covid-19 deceased. The amount would be paid from SDRF, it said.

Following that, the Chhattisgarh government told the District Disaster Management Authority to disburse Rs 50,000 on submission of an application by the concerned family along with details of death.
