Balangir farmers unable to sell brinjals

Tuesday, 11 May 2021 | PNS | BALANGIR

After the distress sale of paddy of farmers of Balangir in the Kharif season last year, now come reports of farmers being unable to sell their vegetables like brinjal due to the restrictions imposed due to the second wave of Covid-19.

This year, farmers of Dhulusar, Chudapali, Badtelen Pali and Saantelen Pali had cultivated brinjal in their fields. Brinjal is a two-month crop. By June, farmers in the district prepare their fields for kharif paddy cultivation, pointed out a farmer.  This year, there has been a good production of brinjal and around 25 quintals of brinjals are being harvested from a field at the weekend. However, as there are restrictions on movement and due to other factors, neither traders are coming to buy from farmers nor they are freely moving to other places due to corona, said another farmer.Farmers have appealed to district administration to look into their problem.
