Bhadrak: 2 wanted in ATM robbery held in encounter, 3 guns, ammo seized

Two dreaded criminals were nabbed following an encounter with   a team of the Rural police near Barapada in Bhadrak district on Wednesday morning.

Police have seized three mousers, four magazines and sharp weapons from their possession.

The duo was identified as Prahalad Das of Soro and Sushant Mallick of Nilagiri in Baleswar district. Both were wanted in the robbery of Rs 29 lakh from an ATM near Lakshinarayan Temple in Charampa area of the district on November 26.

Das and Mallick, who have received gunshot wounds in their legs, were initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after their health condition worsened.

Acting on a tipoff, a team of Rural police station raided a few locations in the Barapada area before having a faceoff with the criminals.

Spotting the police, the accused opened fire in a bid to escape. However, were overpowered and nabbed after retaliatory firing by the cops.

 Rural PS IIC Alok Jena and Constable Srikant Jena Aslo also received minor injuries in the encounter.

Earlier on November 26, six miscreants on two motorcycles came to the ATM near the Laxmi Narayan temple in the Charampa area and threatened the employees of a cash agency while they were busy in loading cash in the kiosk. They later filled a bag with the cash and fled the spot with around Rs 29 lakh on their motorbikes.
